Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort is an adults-only wellness resort at Koele, in the uplands of Lanai about 1,600 ft above sea level. It has 96 rooms and suites in two-storey wings on a 24-acre estate, ten private spa hale, an onsen garden and Sensei by Nobu, and every guest must be 16 or older. Lanai Air flights from Honolulu come with every room booking.
A Four Seasons Preferred Partner booking at Sensei Lanai includes daily breakfast for two, a $100 hotel credit ($200 in suites), a one-category upgrade when available, priority for early check-in and late checkout, and VIP recognition, at the same rate Four Seasons publishes, with no booking fees.

The program benefits are the same at every hotel. What changes is what they are worth. This is how each one works at this property.
Full breakfast for two per bedroom at Sensei by Nobu, in its glass pavilion above a reflecting pond, or through in-room dining. Breakfast is not part of the Room Rate or of the Discover Sensei and Guided Wellness packages, and the nearest alternatives are in Lanai City or at the beach resort, so this benefit is used every morning. The menu includes a Japanese-style breakfast and dishes from Sensei's Nourish menu.
One credit per stay to use at Sensei by Nobu, Koele Garden Bar or the spa. The natural use is a treatment or extra private time in a spa hale, which is where a stay at Sensei is spent.
A one-category upgrade when available at check-in. The step that matters is from a Koele Room to a Koele Deluxe Room, which adds 50 sq ft and a sitting area with a sofa. There are only four suites, so an upgrade into one is rare.
Priority for both. Check-in is at 3:00 pm and checkout at noon, while Lanai Air flies between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm. A room on arrival lets you start with the pool or a class, and a late checkout gives you time for a final treatment before the flight.
A welcome amenity and a VIP note on the reservation. We send the resort your goals, treatment preferences, dietary needs and flight details ahead of time, so they are in hand before your itinerary is planned.
Preferred Partner benefits apply on top of the Room Rate and the resort's own offers, including the Lanai Air flights that come with every room booking. Sensei's packages do not combine with one another or with offers such as the fifth night free, so we price the options side by side for your dates and confirm which ones carry the benefits.
Rooms are in two-storey wings around the gardens, in a palette of cream, tan and white, and every one is set up for two adults. Almost all are Koele Rooms or Koele Deluxe Rooms, each with a furnished balcony or patio, a marble vanity and a spacious shower. Most bathrooms have a shower only, with no tub: the soaking happens in the spa hale and the onsen garden.
About 450 sq ft with a king bed or two doubles and a garden view. If the spa hale, the classes and the grounds are the reason you are going, this room does the job, and the saving pays for treatments.
About 500 sq ft with a king bed, wider views over the gardens and an attached sitting area with a sofa and TV. The extra space matters on a stay of five nights or more, and this is the room Four Seasons uses in its two-resort Lanai itinerary.
A one-bedroom suite of about 790 sq ft with a separate living room, a dining table for four and a large furnished balcony over the gardens. A good base for the resort's private Lanai Table for Two dinner, served on your own lanai.
About 1,200 sq ft with a living room fireplace, a desk, a separate dining area, an 85-inch TV and a spa-style bathroom. The fireplace earns its place on cool upland evenings.
Ground-floor rooms open straight onto the gardens. Tell us whether you would rather be on the ground floor or upstairs and we will request it. With only four suites in total, suites need booking well ahead.
The Room Rate covers the room, the Lanai Air flights, transfers and the daily classes, with a two-night minimum. Discover Sensei adds a nightly spa and wellness credit of $450 per guest, also from two nights. Guided Wellness, from three nights, adds a daily one-to-one session with a Sensei Guide, a $150 nightly credit and 20 percent off further wellness services. An upgrade to Guided Wellness or an Optimal Wellbeing programme must be confirmed at least five days before arrival.
Four Seasons has two resorts on the island. This one is an adults-only wellness retreat in the cool uplands at Koele. Four Seasons Resort Lanai is on the beach at Hulopoe Bay, 20 to 25 minutes away, and welcomes families. Choose Sensei for quiet, the spa and a structured wellness programme, and the beach resort for the ocean, golf and children. Sensei guests can use the beach and sign for meals there, but not the beach resort's pool.
There is no walk-in spa. Each treatment includes 30 minutes of time in your hale, and you can also book a hale on its own for private time or the self-guided Bathing Ritual. With ten hale for 96 rooms, reserve your treatments when you book the stay.
Round-trip flights from Honolulu on Lanai Air are included with every room booking for arrivals up to 31 December 2027, for up to two adults per room. Flights must be requested at least seven days ahead and must match your stay dates, and they run between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm. Send us your mainland flight times as soon as you have them.
Koele is 5 to 10°F cooler than the coast and gets more rain and mist, which is why the gardens are so green. Bring a light jacket for the evenings and a swimsuit for the onsen garden and the heated pool.
A free shuttle runs to Four Seasons Resort Lanai through the day. Sensei guests get beach service at Hulopoe Beach and signing privileges at its restaurants, including Nobu Lanai and Osteria Mozza Lanai. Plan one or two beach afternoons and a dinner there.
Many guests combine both resorts. Four Seasons has packaged this as Two Worlds, One Island: three nights at the beach, then three at Sensei, with the team moving your luggage up the mountain. We can book the two stays together with Preferred Partner benefits at each.
Hawaii's lodging taxes add about 18.7 percent to the room rate: 11 percent state accommodation tax, 3 percent Maui County accommodation tax and 4.712 percent general excise tax. We give you the full total with your quote.
Sensei by Nobu serves all three meals, with Koele Garden Bar for lighter food and drinks. Menus combine Nobu classics with dishes from Sensei's Nourish menu, designed with Sensei's nutritionists, and use produce from Sensei Farm on the island. Executive Chef Leonard Gensolin took over the kitchens in July 2026. An all-inclusive dining plan at Sensei by Nobu can be added for $375 per guest per day.
The main restaurant, in a glass pavilion on a reflecting pond, with 76 seats inside and 20 outside. Dinner brings Nobu signatures such as miso black cod alongside lighter Nourish dishes. This is where the Preferred Partner breakfast is taken.
A relaxed bar off the gardens, with dishes such as a poke tower and a salmon burger, plus cocktails and wine. In the morning it sets out coffee and tea and serves a grab-and-go breakfast.
Food and drink service at the heated pool through the day, with 60 seats on the pool deck.
Two experiences introduced in 2026. Twilight by the Lake is a sunset s'mores evening by the water, with blankets, lanterns and drinks. Lanai Table for Two is a private five-course dinner on your own lanai, opening with champagne.
The beach resort's restaurants are 20 to 25 minutes away by the free shuttle, and Sensei guests can sign meals to their room. Book Nobu Lanai or Osteria Mozza Lanai ahead for a change of scene.
Sensei is built around three pillars, Move, Nourish and Rest, developed with co-founder Dr. David Agus. The spa, the classes and the guides are the core of a stay, set in gardens with an art and sculpture collection.
Ten freestanding Japanese-style treatment hale of about 1,000 sq ft each, opening onto the gardens. Each has an oversized treatment table, an ofuro tub, an infrared sauna, steam, indoor and outdoor showers, a plunge pool and a lounge area, and two have outdoor watsu pools for aquatic bodywork. The signature treatment is the 120-minute Sensei Featured Experience.
A self-guided hydrotherapy sequence introduced in September 2026: infrared sauna, a warm shower with salt scrub, a cool shower, then a soak in the ofuro or the outdoor warm pools, with breathwork prompts at each step. It ends with tea, edamame and fruit.
A lit path through the gardens leads to a group of secluded, heated soaking tubs, open to resort guests. Go after dark, when the uplands are cool.
Sensei Guides are practitioners in fitness, nutrition, yoga, mindset and meditation. They run the daily sessions in Guided Wellness and the longer programmes, including the five-night Optimal Wellbeing and Rest and Reset programmes and new Metabolic Health and Cognitive Fitness sessions launched in 2026.
Daily classes are complimentary, with seven or more to choose from, such as morning meditation, yoga flow, an art walk and a gong sound bath. There are two movement studios, a yoga pavilion with an outdoor space and a 24-hour gym with Peloton bikes and TRX.
A heated outdoor pool with two 25 m lap lanes and three whirlpools, with food and drink service on the deck.
The old Koele course closed in 2017, so golf is at Manele Golf Course by the beach resort, a Jack Nicklaus design of 7,039 yards. Sensei also runs golf and tennis programmes with private instruction. From the uplands the resort arranges horse riding at Lanai Ranch, sporting clays, archery, e-bike tours, the zipline and ropes course, and snorkel sails.
Sensei is cooler and wetter than the coast all year. The choice is between drier months in the uplands and whale season on the water below.
There are no flights to Lanai from the mainland. You come through Honolulu by air or through Maui by ferry. The resort arranges shared transfers from the airport and the harbour, and needs your arrival details at least 72 hours ahead.
Sensei sits just above Lanai City, the island's only town. The resort's shuttle covers the town and the coast, and one day with a 4x4 covers the rest.
The plantation town around the Norfolk pines of Dole Park. The resort runs a complimentary guided walk with its cultural guide, and the Lanai Culture and Heritage Center covers a thousand years of island history. Lanai City Grill and Lanai Bowl, open Wednesday to Sunday, are the places for dinner in town.
More than 700 rescued cats on an open-air site. It is open from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm every day with no admission fee, and the resort runs complimentary 90-minute tours three times a week.
Also called Garden of the Gods: a plateau of red rock towers and boulders, about 45 minutes from Lanai City on a rough dirt road. A 4x4 is essential.
The white-sand beach below Four Seasons Resort Lanai, in a marine preserve, with loungers set up for Sensei guests. The free shuttle takes 20 to 25 minutes.
The ranch in the Koele hills, once the centre of the island's ranching. The resort arranges 90-minute guided rides through the wooded uplands.
Daily breakfast for two per bedroom at Sensei by Nobu or through in-room dining, a $100 hotel credit per stay ($200 in suites), a one-category upgrade when available at check-in, priority for early check-in and late checkout, and a welcome amenity with VIP recognition. Breakfast is not included in Sensei's Room Rate, so the benefit is used every day, and the Lanai Air flights from Honolulu still come with the booking.
Yes. Sensei Lanai is adults only, and every guest must be 16 or older. Every room is set up for two adults. Families with younger children stay at Four Seasons Resort Lanai, on the beach 20 to 25 minutes away.
